(Taken from the Cedar Rapids Symphony Program)

William Michals made his Broadway debut in Disney's Beauty and the Beast, where he has played both the Beast and Gaston. He has recieved standing ovations across the United States, and as far away as Singapore for his performances as the Phantom in Phantom of the Opera, Inspector Javert in Les Miserables, Harold Hill in The Music Man, and Lancelot in Camelot (with Robert Goulet). This New York native has appeared in numerous films, and was recently higlighed at the New York International Independant Film Festival as the Cheshire Cat in Alice Underground, an avant-garde take on the Lewis Carroll classic, directed by Robert Lee. Television audiences may have seen his featured appearances on Law & Order, All My Children, and Guiding Light. Mr. Michals can be heard on Ragtime- Premier Cast Recording, and on his soon-to-be-released debut CD. Extensive training with Phyllis Curtain and Louis Quilico, among others, led to operatic and concert performances in such roles as Figaro and the Count in Le nozze di Figaro, Marcello in La Boheme, Papageno in Die Zauberflote, various contemporary works, and soloist in Bach's St. Matthew's Passion, with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Michals credits his success to his beautiful wife, Lisa, and their children, Liam and Kalen, who, twenty-one months apart, are stars in their own right, having been featured on soap operas, national ad campaigns, and even the cover of Newsweek- all before the age of three!
